POLICY + PROJECTS

Heartwood Foundation logo

Heartwood pairs thought with action.

We are a nonprofit public policy organization (a "think tank"). We serve developing nations with in-depth research and analysis of their education policy and systems, crafting ideas to solve problems at a national and local scale. That's the thought.

As for action, Heartwood also serves in direct project work. We partner with educators, communities, and peer organizations to actively develop the educational environment.

EVAN HEWITT

After founding Rwanda's first public library and serving in higher education and nonprofit initiatives, Evan discovered an emerging gap of service in developing nations: think tanks.

In developing nations, most nonprofits are built for critical, local needs. Yet, as those needs are met, more sophisticated, systematic needs arise.

For that, Evan founded the Heartwood Foundation, an organization to bridge the gap between local education and national policies.
